We have listed below a few things you should think about in your new design.

  • What areas are you trying to heat and cool (do you mind having a cold hall?)
  • Have you thought about furniture placement (would you want air blowing on your favourite chair)?
  • How many outdoor units are you happy to see?
  • How much control do you want if you are heat the whole house (do you to be able to shut off areas)?
  • Is fresh air ventilation important? (new houses are very airtight and can suffer from moisture build up)
  • How are you going to heat your hot water? (hot water heat pumps are available which can make heat more cost effective)

How do heat pumps and ventilation systems (PPV&BPV) work together?

A heat pump system is designed to regulate indoor air quality and provide thermal comfort. It makes a new build feel more comfortable in terms of temperature. A ventilation serves to regulate indoor humidity. It removes excess moisture and odorous air from the interior in exchange for dry, fresh air from the outside. As a result, it controls condensation and prevents mould growth and other moisture problems.

What’s the difference between PPV & BPV?

  • PPV (Positive Pressure Ventilation) Take air from your roof cavity, when the cavity is warm from the sun and introduces it to your home. With brands like DVS, HRV, Smart Vent, Moister Master There are differences between these products on the market such as functions and duct quality.
  • BPV (Balanced Pressure Ventilation) Take air from the room with the heating device is in and recovers the heat on to fresh from outside, does not use the air from the roof cavity. The recovery cores can be made from different material polycarbonate, aluminium, plastic.

Though the two systems work differently, they work together to regulate indoor air quality. If you have any concerns or need clarification about the way these systems work, we are more than glad to talk you about them.

How Do You Choose the Right Heating and Ventilation System?

There is more to heat pumps and ventilation systems than brands and budget. New builds require varying levels of temperature and environment control. It is important to lay out all possible choices before making a decision. These are the factors you should consider before installing a system in your new build:

Hot Water

Heat pumps work a lot like refrigerators except in reverse. Refrigerators pump heat out to stay cool while heat pumps, as the name implies, pumps heat into the water. There is no one-size-fits-all heat pump system, though. Different airflow and budgets require different units.

Heating and Cooling

The HVAC specialists at AirMaster keep updated with the most reliable brands and models. We recommend and install a wide range of heating and ventilation systems from trusted manufacturers like Daikin, Fujitsu and Hitachi. We install these economical and practical solutions throughout NZ.

HRV systems are meant to extract heat from indoor air and replace it with fresh outdoor air. On the other hand, a PPV system brings in filtered air from the roof space to push out moist air through vent systems. Both improve air quality.

Ventilation systems are particularly important in bathrooms and kitchens which tend to have more moisture than the rest of the house. Every shower and every boiling kettle increases moisture and humidity levels which a powerful ventilation system can efficiently lessen.
